Purpose
There are three main purposes or objectives of the Japanese Tea Ceremony.
They are:
Sen No Rikyu said that the tea ceremony should be an escape from all your troubles and thoughts. It is a way to feel at peace with yourself.
They are:
- To strengthen the bond between the host(s) and their guest(s) and to create a relaxed atmosphere.
- To entertain guests; they can just drink some tea and relax while talking with others.
- To enter a stage of complete peace and tranquility by meditating and drinking the tea. (This is the ultimate goal).
